Acquisition of content company
The company Netmaps, dedicated to the creation of digital cartographic content, born on the internet in 1997, has absorbed the meteorological content company Tempsbcn. Tempsbcn Int. was born in early 1997 on the internet and had recently experienced a significant decline in its online services. The company, which created services such as Cold Air Alerts (in its third year online), had reached an average of 1000 daily visits in its early years (1997-98). Tempsbcn Int. is dedicated to creating digital meteorological content for the internet and other media. Netmaps’ absorption is based on the creation of its own meteorological services for the locations on the Map Guides (www.mapasguias.com), currently focused on Catalonia with more than 25 locations online, and with a plan to expand to over 150 locations in Spain with fewer than 50,000 inhabitants before the end of the year. Tempsbcn Int. will also participate in the creation of its own network of automated information reception centers (automatic headquarters), a national network, in order to create and manage its own primary meteorological information. This process will be supported by the territorial expansion of Netmaps’ Map Guides throughout Spain. The absorption of Tempsbcn Int. also represents an important concentration of strategic digital content under a single baton in the field of the internet, on two of the basic and complementary pillars in the network: meteorological information and cartographic information. The synergy of content will also result in Tempsbcn Int. occupying one of the floors of the Netmaps building. In this sense, the changes in the content structure of Tempsbcn Int. will be effective publicly for the winter season, as it has much higher audience ratings during that time than in the summer.
